"Blog of the week"
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:13:01 am »
Just like I've already said in our sourcing post, I thought we could also have a "blog of the week".
I will draw a picture for it and we'll post it each week... (maybe each friday) just with another blog on it, we recommend to visit (or to follow).

I thought, that we all could do suggestions here who should be blog of the week. I mean that's something simple we could do... find a nice blog, write 2 nice sentences about it and post it. We could also queue those posts, and everyone could give us suggestions. We could also ask the people to give us suggestions via forum or via ask.

First I wanted to do this on my own blog, since I guess I'd reach more followers... but I mean we can still reblog it and use our No. 6 blog for this stuff, too.

What do you think about it?

Lol I've just answered you in the other topic.

I agree that with your blog we would reach more followers, but maybe it would be nice if you'd reblog the post from the shared blog. If we want to advertise the shared blog, we might as well make the first post there. And when you reblog it to your blog, you could add a personal message to your followers for example? (if you want). I think if we're going to have all these things on the shared blog, we should always post first on it, otherwise it has less meaning.

I like the idea as a whole but I think it probably would be kinda difficult to do this every week. Because sometime soon we'll gonna run out of blogs (or I'm just a pessimist here ... don't know xD) Maybe it would be better to do this every month?

I wouldn't mind including this into our No.6 blog ^^

Ok, you're right. That might be too much. o.o  There will be a time when we run out of blogs and stuff.

I like Yuneyn's idea, to make a nice post with "Blog of the month, fanart of the month, fanfiction of the month, AVM of the month and maybe also cosplay of the month."

I thought about drawing a banner we could use then... People can submit suggestions, because I think that would also be interactive. (Even though I guess we won't get many suggestions in the beginning...)

We could post it on No. 6 Day. Or rather inbetween two No. 6 days?

Hmm, why not do it at the end of each month? Like some kind of conclusion to the past month.

I have an idea how we could do this using the forum but I'm not sure it would work.

Like have a "suggestion post", where people would just suggest blogs, fics, etc. Then every month, we would randomly pick out like 10 of these, and have a poll post, where people could vote for their favorite. The winners would be the blog/fic/etc of the month.

But of course, that can only work when people actually use the forum...

Yeah, that would be cool, but that's also a lot of work. XD Hmmm... yeah, we could do both things, they could send fanmails or asks (ok that's difficult since you can't send links there...) or they can use the forum... (If they sent asks we can copy them in here to analyze the results.)

Do you think it would be too much when we do blog, fanfiction, fanart, avm and cosplay?

Yeah the end of the month would be ok, too. ^^

It might be a lot of work... I'm really not sure. I guess having people vote would be nice, but it might become complicated.

Or we could just ask people to send us suggestions, and then we'd have some kind of random pick? But that might be less fair... I don't know. Maybe someone else has an idea about that?

Hm... we could take suggestions, number them and then we use http://www.random.org/.
I think this would be fair.

So, first: I think we should totally invite people to suggest blogs and fanfiction for those. That would be great and would include the fandom. And if you mention that there might be a poll on this forum maybe some of them would make accounts to participate there? (Of course, if making a poll isn't too much work - no forum experience here xD)

Maybe we should start with blog and fanfiction (since those are the easiest topics) and if we feel that we could do more, we could include the rest. Of course, I wouldn't mind if we'd try all of these immediately as well - I'm just a bit worried about finding a reasonable amount of each to really have something to chose from ^^" (And of course about over-working ourselves.)
End of the month sounds fine for me :) Or the beginning? Depends - do you want to do this as a review or a preview?

And if absolutely no one uses the forum and votes, we could always chose someone with the random generator :D

Hm, maybe we should take fanfiction, blog and fanart, and if it's going well we can also do avm and cosplay. I think we should use fanart, because not all people read ffs... and artworks are the main thing on tumblr.

Hm... I think creating a poll would suck... we would need 3 different threads each month... and 3 different polls if we do 3 things. I dunno.... oo

Or... for fanfiction and fanart we could base ourselves on stats?

Like :
Most popular fanart on (art website) this month.
Most popular fic on (fic website) this month.

For fics this would probably just alternate between FF.net and AO3, but for art there would be Pixiv, Deviantart, etc, and also Tumblr.

I don't know how that would be possible, we'd have to like look at all the new fics/art every month and pick the ones with the best stats... but sometimes we could also pick an older one. Though I believe most of us know the old arts/fics... Or um, take an old thing which doesn't have a lot of stats and (unless it's horrible) take this opportunity to give it a little boost?

Just an idea I'm throwing out there^^ what do you think?

Hm, that's maybe a bit too complicated.

I mean the fanfiction thing would work just fine. It's not that there's an immense flood of new ff's each month. But watching deviantart and pixiv, and tumblr to find fanarts would be way to complicated... I never wanted to burden us with a horrible huge task of statitics and so one...
The only purpose is to do something where other people can send suggestions, to be a bit interactive... to praise people's work and advertise it a bit... no matter if it's old or new stuff.

We don't need a complicated system to find the fanwork of the month. We should just keep an eye on it that we don't show always the same people's stuff... that the fanfiction's aren't too crappy when we recommend them and when it comes to fanarts... Art is extremely subjective. That's why I think it would be fairer to draw the "winner" by lots, to give everybody the same chances.

Just for the beginning. I mean when we have more people to work together with us... people who just want to do polls and analyze them later, it's fine to let everyone do polls to chose the stuff of the month.

I don't want us to drown in work... it should be fun for everyone. I mean I have a lot of ffs I'd like to recommend, a lot of favorite fanarts... and other people like other stuff. We're here to cherish them all without favoriting certain people (we can do this on our own blogs ;3).

We don't even have to chose 10 out of the suggestions...  When we get 40 suggestions, we draw out of those 40. (But when there are so many we should maybe recommend 3 out of them... just like. Our recommended fanarts this month are: This, that and this here!

Just my thoughts, but of course I'm always all ears to hear your ideas. :3 But don't let us get this too complicated.

I have to say, I agree with Ahiku. To do it like that would be immensely difficult. I'd say we'd just take recommendations from people following the blog, write it all down in several categories (fanfiction, fanart, blog, etc.) and

1. look if something get's recommended more often than the others (then that would probably be the best of the month)
2. keep track of who was already on the best to make sure it doesn't pop up twice in a short amount of time
3. if there isn't anything that's clearly more popular than the other's right now, I'd use a random generator on all other suggestions we collected until then.

That should be doable with a simple Excel table, don't you think? Just mark the ones already titled 'Best' with a color and keep all the others + doing a column for 'What' and one for 'How many recommendations'.
Yeah, if it gets really much, we could always draw several, you're right. And I would totally keep the ones that didn't make it into the 'Best of the month' yet to give them another chance ^^ This way, we'll have something to recommend even if people momentarily stop to suggest fanarts or anything.

You're both right^^ I guess I get a little too carried away with my organisation/perfectionism issues lol.

I could take care of creating a shared Excel doc on Google Drive, with different tabs and all so we could keep track of recommendations. If that's ok with you of course^^

Sure, go ahead :D (A shared document is a very good idea xD Wouldn't have thought about that ^^")
