Unsourced art...
« on: October 21, 2014, 01:20:10 pm »
Well, what could we do about it? Any ideas? :3
I thought that we could build a special force... it's definitely not something one person can do all alone.

I think you're right - it's definitely not something one person alone should or could do. Unfortunately I severely lack any ideas ^^"

Unfortunately, I'm rarely in the tags as it is. I just barely have the time to browse them (the sourcing isn't even the problem most of the time). So, I don't know but is it possible to create a blog on tumblr with several people posting on it (like, everyone who wants to source now and then)? This way we could share the task to source art effectively since you could see what was already sourced by 'your' blog.

I found the idea good to ask the people to take down the art if the artist forbids the reproduction and sourcing art via reblogging as a link - hindering people to just keep on reblogging with the source added and encouraging the people who post those.

I already try to ask artists whether or not I'm allowed to repost their art on tumblr. I already reblogged some guidelines from a user how to write a message to japanese artists with a formal letter you can just reblog and add some minor changes (like names and such). Maybe we should spread them again?

I'm glad that you chose to do this via the forum, really. Though we're probably few people here than on tumblr, maybe it's reaching more people nevertheless.

@Lawlya: That's a good idea. We should have a shared blog. Even if we start with just a few of us... it's still better than nothing. Maybe we can find some more people who want to join then...
Or ask if people wanna help from time to time.

Everyone should keep an eye on it... maybe we won't be able to find everything, but when we at least do something against it, it's just fine.

What about calling the blog: No6fanworkforce or something? XD Any suggestions?

Oh, when you have guidlines, please post them here... I think it's better to operate here.
You can also start a new topic... Guidlines and premade text sources we just need to copy then.

I think it should be simple and maybe even always the same one, saying: "You should delete this post immediately. Blabla" Whatever...

And if some people could ask for permission when we find new fanarts would be nice, too. Maybe there are 1-2 people who want to do this job.

@Ahiku: Wow, thanks xD To be honest - I don't even know how shared blogs on tumblr work ... Like, do you have to invite somebody to be an admin or does he just need a password or ...? Do you know?
And yeah, even if we're just a few; something's getting done and it's not just one person shouldering all the work.

That's my opinion too. It's too much of a matter to expect to stop unsourced art all together but so long as the artists are credited even if it's not the original poster who does it, it's better than doing nothing.

God, I suck at names >.> Don't ask me; I'm fine with anything, really xD

Yeah, probably ... Adding the source shouldn't be much of a problem either but I'm not sure if the original posters on tumblr like it to be posted again. After all they either translated it themselves or asked friends.
Wait, if I open up a new topic, should I do it here in the Conference Room?

That would be a good idea. It would make the matter easier; you'd just have to add the sources manually and copy and paste the rest.

Preferably some that know Japanese or Chinese? Or someone who is confident enough in their talent with Google Translate xD

Ah, that's easy... one of us can just create a new blog... and then you can invite other people. You can give them administration rights, too. But I guess for most people it would be enough when they can write posts for that blog. (And then we should also reblog it there, if it's already on tumblr...)

Yes, just create a new topic here. I'll make it sticky.

Maybe we could find an easy way out and say that we won't accept posting art without asking in general. Just to keep it as simple and easy as possible. I'd would be a hassle when you have to research everything, to find out if the artist is ok with it or not. If we see unsourced art it's not ok. To be honest I would just demand to delete it and post the source of art, no matter if it's a pixiv or tumblr artist. Because it doesn't matter. And I think it's futile to do a big research to find the original post and tell them that they should reblog it directly from the tumblr artist. I mean they won't do it anyway... <,< But if the artist is on Tumblr... maybe we could message the artist and tell them he should contact the support. We can also have a text source for this where we just need to add the links. Fanmail should do it... something line: "Hello! Someone reblogged your fanart. Here's the link... We recommend you to contact support@tumblr.com"

Ah, so you have to invite them. Good to know. Yeah, I thought about reblogging it there too because it's already there but maybe not too well known ^^

Okay, I'll try my luck and post the letters there with a source attached.

I would like that too. I mean, I find it incredibly sad when artists answer that they don't want their art reposted but I can understand them as well and respect that. Maybe knowing that it's gonna be posted to a sourcing No.6 blog would make them more comfortable.
Okay, I agree with this - delete unsourced art because the original post can still harm the artist by getting notes. If you got the permission or the artist states that it's okay to repost, then make a new post with the source. It's just copy and pasting from there, really.
I'd like to search for the original tumblr post if possible but you're probably right. Sadly. And that would be a good way to approach it. Tell the artist with a link to the post and if the reposter won't take it down the artist themselve can decide whether or not to contact the tumblr staff.

Okay, I'm off creating the new topic now. Let's see if I succeed xD

Ok, thank you :3 I think we can also post the link to source webpages there and our premade texts, to keep everything in one post/thread.

IDEAS:

- shared blog

Who wants to open it?
How should we call it?
Who wants to participate?
If we are several people, should we arrange duties? (For example one is doing the NezuShi tag, the other one the Shion tag etc.)

- just one note to keep things simple

Who can write a good note?

Since most people tend to ignore these kind of posts, anyway, we should keep it as simple as possible, I guess just telling them that they should delete it, that they'll harm the artist and the fandom and the actual souce will be fine.

- artist message, if the artist has a tumblr account

Anyone who wants to write it?

Also premade, so just copy and paste the link of your sourcing post. Something like: ""Hello! Another Tumblr user reposted your fanart. You can find the linke here: xxx If you want to remove it, we recommend you to contact the support team. (support@tumblr.com)"

Any other ideas? Wishes? Opinions? :3

Ah, thank you Lawl :3
That's great. I think it's really better to have it here in the forum, since you'll lose sight of it when you just have it on tumblr.

Oh... so if there's anyone who wants to ask other artists... that would be great.

@Lawl we should also check out Animexx. Maybe there are some nice fanarts we could share... or maybe even some other people who are using Tumblr. :3

- shared blog

Well, since you know how to do it ... I'd say you open it up.
I like the idea of duties. The first one's being covered should probably be the 'No.6'- and 'No. 6'-tags. Then 'NezuShi' and then the character tags. Maybe you'd even want to assign more than just one person to the main tags.

- just one note to keep things simple

How about something like this:
"Since you posted this art without a source, we kindly ask of you to delete this and ask the artist for permission to repost. Unsourced art shared without consent will harm the artist and ultimatively hurt the fandom too. The source of this art is:
Pixiv ID: [Link]
Artist: [Link]"
This way you can just copy the Saucenao information to the end of the text.

- artist message, if the artist has a tumblr account

That's already enough I think. Maybe adding something like "We/I'd (are we a collective conscience or not xD) like to inform you that ..." to make it sound more friendly ^^

So, you'd like to make a post linking to the forum on the blog? To make it easier?

@Ahiku: Yeah, you're right. We should totally do that xD I believe I once was in the fanart tag >.> Don't remember much though xD

Oh, and to everyone else who may read this: Please don't hesistate to speak up :) Me and Ahiku apparently just have too much freetime and are babbling too much xD I figured that a decent amount of posts that were already made might scare away some of you so I thought I'd might as well invite you - don't mind me too much ...

Yes, please join us. ^^

Will do. But I think I'll do this when we've already some stuff done. I think it's better to show them that we really mean it. XD And not only saying we are planning on something. They can still join then... When someone want to join the force that person will get our important post. Even if that person doesn't want to be in the forum. ^^ I mean that's also possible. But somehow I don't think that many people want to do this kind of stuff.

Oh yeah, I like your text... if the others are ok with it, I think we can use it. Sounds good.

We also need a blog theme then. XD Someone who wants to do that?

Ok, if no one else wants to create the blog, I'll do it tomorrow. And now, we should our friends give a chance to answer here as well. ^^

Ah...and of course we are "WE" XD (Ok, I'm used to use we, since I always have to do this when I have to work e-mail stuff...) but it shows solidarity and that we're a team and no lone wolfs.

We could also call our blog No.6union or so... XD

Maybe... call it the RestructuralCommittee? Or come up with something based on that. You know, since we're trying to rebuild a bit... That's my two cents, anyway.

Hi!!

Wow I did not check the forum last night so I didn't see that you already discussed all of this!
I'm all for reviving the fandom in any case, though I'm sure most of the former users of the forum have deserted it, so we'll need to advertise it again if we want more people to participate.

As for sourcing, your ideas are all pretty cool! I have made a Pixiv account one but to be honest I just favorited a bunch of Kingdom Hearts stuff and never used it again - don't know why. But I do have some time on my hands, so unless I find a job soon that ends up eating me I could totally help.

@Yuneyn: So you would ask some people if you find new fanarts?
Would you also help with one of the No. 6 tags? Just sourcing if you find something in the tag you're observing... I don't think it's too much work, when you just have one tag, like Shion or Nezumi.

I'll create the blog today and when I've a bit time left I'll draw a picture to promote everything. ^^ So that some more people might see it... (So I'm not posting a link but a pic, since I guess it will get more attetion like that...) Where we introduce our shared blog and invite them to join the forum if they want to help, too.

Where should we post them? On our shared account? I mean it could be a no. 6 blog for all of us... one where we share fanarts of non tumblr artists, where we source art... and we could also reblog links to some nice fanfictions (maybe once each week...ff or even ff of the day...)

If I find something new I'll ask, but to be honest I might not be using Pixiv that much. But I'll definitely help with one of the tags, so if I end up on Pixiv for sourcing I might see something new at the same time.

One thing that might be hard is that some artists deleted their work, and I'm not sure how we would know that... if we can't find the source image anymore it might make things harder.

As for opening the blog, I'm all for it, but shouldn't we wait for a few days... like until everything has calmed down a little? I'm afraid things are still warm as there are still posts about what happened on Tumblr. I don't know, I'm not sure it would be appropriate.

Oh and I think posting on the new blog would be better, and then we'll all reblog it on our personal blog. I have less than 400 followers but who knows^^
