Episode 1, part 1:

(Sorry for any errors! I change a few minor things like spelling/grammar errors I found along the way and changed "Rat" to "Nezumi" for our sanity. I also added key events in the anime where it's hard to tell by the commentary alone what they are talking about.)

YK: Hello, everyone! Good afternoon, good evening and good morning! I’m Shion’s voice actor, Yuki Kaji.

YH: Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening! I’m Yoshimasa Hosoya, Nezumi’s voice actor.

YK: Yep.

YH: Right.

YK: Well, we’re already out of sync with the tension of the scene playing.

YH: Yes, we are!

YK: But this is a commentary!

YH: Exactly!

YK: I hope you enjoy hearing what we’ve got to say. This is the audio commentary for No. 6 DVD/BD Volume 1.

YH: Right.

YK: So, we actually have certain themes we’re going to discuss.

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: There are two of them. We’ll passionately discuss the episode, specific scenes, and characters. So we’ll have fun chatting about No. 6 while watching the episode.

YH: Sounds good!

YK: Yeah! And also… we’re going to discuss our feelings about the show.

YH: I see.

YK: That’s what this program is going to feature.

YH: Wonderful!

YK: I’m not sure if “program” is quite the right word for it…

YH: Isn’t this great?

YK: Yeah. We’ve got something kind of like a script.

YH: Right.

YK: So we’ll be glancing at that and using it as a guide.

YH: Right.

YK: Jeez, how many times have we seen this?

YH: I’m starting to wear it out.

YK: We’ve watched it a lot.

YH: It’s wearing out? But this didn’t get a VHS release!

YK: Yeah, it isn’t a VHS, is it?

YH: But you get what I mean.

YK: So, the episode started with a pretty serious scene starring Nezumi.

YH: Right, right. It starts with a chase scene.

YK: That’s the opening scene.

YH: Yeah…

YK: And then Safu and Shion are at school studying.

YH: Right, right.

YK: Although I’m not sure you could say Shion is studying.

YH: Seriously!

YK: Well, I’ve got a bit of trivia for this scene.

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: Shion is gazing out of the classroom daydreaming. Here you can see Shion floating in the sky. This fantasy-like scene wasn’t originally in the script. Director Nagasaki added it in the storyboard. It was a Nagasaki idea. But the first time I saw this was when I was recording as Shion for the first trailer.

YH: I remember that.

YK: It was then. The song really matched it well. I felt it matched the world of No. 6.

YH: I can see that.

YK: The sound matched.

YH: It did a good job creating a sense of foreboding.

YK: It was really abstract… It’s like Shion put all of his attention into one thing and couldn’t think about anything else. Doesn’t that seem about right?

YH: Uh-huh, yeah…

YK: I felt that it did an excellent job of portraying how we are going to see more of that character trait.

YH: Kaji, were you the type of child in elementary school that would daydream during study time?

YK: No, I was a real poop!

YH: I doubt that! I don’t believe you…

YK: I acted like a good kid.

YH: Oh, I see. You were the studious type.

YK: I actually studied.

YH: So you’d study…

YK: Hosoya, how about you?

YH: Me? Right before summer break in the first grade,

YK: Uh-huh…

YH: my teacher told me, “Hosoya, I don’t know where you’re looking during class. I’m worried about you.”

YK: There’re kids who are like that!

YH: I know…

YK: I think a lot of people are like that, especially in elementary school.

YH: They lack determination.

YK: Yeah…

YH: I often stared at the ceiling, believe it or not.

YK: That’s kinda scary!

YH: Kinda!

YK: It’s not like you could see things you shouldn’t, right?

YH: Probably not.

YK: You just liked fortune telling, right?

YH: R-Right. But I just recently got into fortune telling.

YK: Well, here’s the opening. Lama sang this theme…

YH: Right. It’s cool how…

YK: …song.

YH: …they show the two extremes. There’s Shion’s life and then Nezumi appears and we see his life. Then their lives intertwine.

YK: The story starts when they are twelve. The tones and the pictures or composition here are kinda cool.

YH: Aren’t they? That looked kinda like a honeycomb. It’s like they flew through a honeycomb.

YK: Then there’s these droplets. Is the stuff on their skin supposed to represent their lives…

YH: …up until now?

YK: Maybe What could it be? It makes me wonder what awaits them next. Is that what the image meant? And here at the end, they’ve matured.

YH: This gives me goose bumps every time I see it!

YK: Doesn’t it?

YH: I love when they face each other here…

YK: And… Tada!

YH: Yeah, yeah, seriously!

YK: So we’re in the other side of the rainbow.

YH: Right, right! Isn’t that cool?

YK: Isn’t it? About No. 6’s logo. It resembles an eye.

YH: It’s like an eye?

YK: It’s like the eye of a cow, a spider, or a bee.

YH: Like a cow’s eye… Right.

YK: When they announced that No. 6 was going to be made into an anime, they also opened the official site at about the same time.

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: You could download a free wallpaper then.

YH: Eh?! Really?

YK: You could change the hues to your liking. I downloaded that and set it as my desktop background that very day.

YH: Wow!

YK: I hadn’t even auditioned for the show yet, but I really liked it.

YH: Oh, that’s right! You had already read the original novels.

YK: I’d read them. Isn’t Safu here adorable? [on the ferry]

YH: She’s cute!

YK: She went, “Ehe he he!”

YH: “Ehe he he!”

YK: She was being honest to her feelings.

YH: Yeah, uh-huh.

YK: And the way she swung her legs around… My, my… Doesn’t that little chime come up a lot? [in reference to the chime after Shion and Safu exit the ferry and enter the station]

YH: Yeah, it does. That’s because they’re under watch.

YK: Right. It really gives the feeling that this is No. 6. The horn that went off toward the beginning of the scene was from a water-bus.

YH: Yeah, yeah, uh-huh.

YK: We’re in a different scene now, but supposedly that is the main form of transportation in No. 6.

YH: Isn’t it peaceful here?

YK: Although it has a progressive feeling about it, the model for the setting is actually Amsterdam!

YH: Where was Amsterdam again?

YK: Germany? Where is it? Is it in Germany?

YH: Germany?

YK: Huh?

YH I never really hear much about Amsterdam.

YK: No, it’s in Holland! Holland!

YH: I never paid much attention to it.

YK: It just hit me. It’s in Holland. It’s Holland.

YH: Holland?

YK: Holland.

YH: Holland…

YK: It has tulips and fields with windmills.

YH: Oh, okay! I got it now.

YK: Uh-huh. That’s what inspired this town. It’s called the Capital on the Water.

YH: Aren’t the names used here unique? Like Shion and Safu?

YK: Right! The names are unique.

YH: Yeah.

YK: Yeah and upcoming names like Dogkeeper match their jobs.

YH: It matches their descriptions.

YK: There’s Yoming, Lili, and Karan. We’ll get to see a lot of unique characters. Jeez, Safu. That may have been really important to Safu, [the birthday sweater]

YH: I know, I know!

YK: but Shion is like, “That’s what I said, huh?” That’s so him.

YH: It’s cute.

YK: He didn’t mean to be hurtful.

YH: He-- He’s a good guy.

YK: I’m sure he said what he felt at the time.

YH: In the cut where the two were standing next to each other, it felt realistic the way Safu looked slightly taller than him.

YK: It’s showing how girls mature a little quicker than guys. Shion’s rosy cheeked. [after blowing out the candles]

YH: Shion is so adorable in this scene!

YK: Isn’t he? Twelve years old, eh? Wouldn’t he be in the sixth grade?

YH: What did you do then?

YK: I was an elementary schooler! I think most people are.

YH: Good point, good point.

YK: I remember when I was first told to voice a twelve year old. I had already read the novels.

YH: Right, right.

YK: So I had figured that there would be scenes from when he was twelve. Originally I thought they’d have different voice actors play those roles. But ultimately, we did the voices for Episode 1.

YH: Right.

YK: We wound up voice acting for their younger versions. Any thoughts on it?

YH: I-- Well, the main thing I remember…

YK: Yes?

YH: …was when I visited the recording studio for the very first time. Child-version Shion and Nezumi were on the screen.

YK: Right, uh-huh.

YH: But when we auditioned, the picture of them was fairly large. So when I heard they were twelve, I was at a real loss. I remember asking you, “What should I do?”

YK: Yeah, I wasn’t sure what to do.

YH: I know, right?

YK: Well, to a certain degree, there wasn’t much difference from when they’re older.

YH: Yeah, uh-huh.

YK: But since they’re twelve years old, it’s not like they’re super young.

YH: Right.

YK: When I think back on when I was in the sixth grade, I don’t think I talked too candidly or childlike. I focused on the acting, trying to not make it sound forced.

YH: Right.

YK: This scene is pretty memorable. [when Shion leaves Safu’s house]

YH: Isn’t it?

YK: Safu gave him a little kiss and then the umbrella got blown away.

YH: Yeah, uh-huh.

YK: And didn’t Shion’s reaction match his personality perfectly?

YH: He wanted to know why she did the same thing as his mother.

YK: Right, exactly. According to what I’ve heard…

YH: Okay, uh-huh.

YK: In a later episode, we get to see another maternal-like kiss.

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: I asked the director right quick what role kisses play or represent for Shion and the series No. 6 as a whole. If the director participates in one of our audio commentaries, I’d like him to share his explanation.

YH: Yeah, I’d love to hear about it!

YK: And this is the Moon Drop.

YH: There it is.

YK: It isn’t a bar!

YH: Right, right, right! When I first heard its name, I thought it sounded like a bar.

YK: Uh-huh. And then there’s how it cries. You know, it’s kinda strange to think that a building can cry. I was curious what animal made that noise. My trivia here says that whales were integrated into the sound. I guess it has a lot of different animals in it.

YH: So why does it cry?

YK: Yeah. That’s part of the mystery. This is only eleven episodes long, so I wonder if they’ll squeeze everything in.

YH: I can’t help but wonder.

YK: I’d like everyone to think about what could be making that noise as you watch the show. Now you can hear it.

YH: This is it!

YK: Amazing!

YH: That’s the cry.

YK: The water droplets on the window are impressive!

YH: It’s amazing!

YK: It’s wonderful. And this is the scene where Shion screams out.

YH: Here he goes. Yeah…

YK: And he runs out of breath.

YH: Yeah, he does. He did right there, right? It’s where the “Aah!” went weak.

YK: That’s the spot. He screamed until he ran out of breath.

YH: I like how he screamed until he ran out of breath.

YK: Mima said,

YH: It looked like it felt good.

YK: “Kaji, you looked like you really enjoyed yourself. It was great.” During the rehearsal, I screamed with my mouth wide open facing the sky, just like in the show. I put all of my energy into screaming, “Ah!”

YH: You were facing up then too, weren’t you?

YK: We were really in sync.

YH: Yeah.

YK: And now for Shion and Nezumi’s first encounter. This started everything! Everything starts with this.

YH: Right. Everything starts here.

YK: It got the ball rolling. If Shion hadn’t opened the window…

YH: None of this would have happened.

YK: Nope. And if the storm hadn’t come, none of this would have happened.

YH: Yeah, it wouldn’t have.

[Don’t move.]

YK: What a powerful line!

Episode 1, part 2:

YH: Yeah!

YK: Now we’re entering Part 2.

YH: Yes, we are.

YK: The rest of the episode, like 95% of it, is a dialogue between Shion and Nezumi.

YH: That’s right.

YK: But Karan will get a few lines.

YH: She talks a little.

YK: Right.

YH: Phew! Isn’t this amazing? Someone suddenly lunged out at him.

YK: I know!

YH: I can’t believe he said, “I have experience with these situations.”

YK: Seriously! Shion’s being his typical self. He sounds pained when he talks here [with Nezumi’s hand on his throat], but then his mother calls him. Originally I considered making him sound pained here, but well, Nezumi’s a smart guy. So I bet Nezumi loosened his grip a bit so Shion’s mom wouldn’t catch on,

YH: That makes sense.

YK: while keeping it clear that he could strangle Shion at any second. That’s why Shion was able to talk like normal. He’s clever.

YH: He sure is!

YK: No wonder he’s crucial in storyboarding. Even though this is a high-tech world, there are aspects about it that we can relate to.

YH: Exactly! It doesn’t feel far out.

YK: Right, right. That’s exactly why you can identify with the characters. There are certain aspects that should make you question modern-day society. I believe that Asano, the writer for the original novels, said as much in one of her afterwords. It would be great if the anime was able to express that as well. [in Shion’s room by shelves] Ah, check that out.

YH: Look at all those trophies! It’s nuts, sheesh! It’s because he’s gifted. He’s too gifted.

YK: I love when you went “Ah!” Nezumi was like “Ah! That hurt! Ah!”

YH: Right, right.

YK: I love how you went “Ah!” instead of “Ugh!”

YH: Uh-huh, uh-huh…

YK: Yeah… The mood in this scene is unique. Mima mentioned this as well, but there really wasn’t much BGM. He wanted to show the chemistry between these two characters, so he didn’t add much music here. Isn’t it amazing? This is almost entirely composed of their conversation.

YH: Right.

YK: It’s just their discussion.

YH: Wow… It doesn’t feel like anything’s lacking, does it?

YK: You just got to love full conversations like these. It makes me want to sit and watch it.

YH: Same here.

YK: I never get bored of it!

YH: It’s really good.

YK: Shion’s quirkiness and attitude are really portrayed well. Shion is truly a mysterious child. He’s like--

YH: He’s the most unique character in the show.

YK: And naturally, Nezumi is drawn to him. Likewise, Shion is absolutely fascinated by someone unlike anyone he’s ever known in No. 6, Chronos.

YH: Uh-huh…

[Shion asks about Nezumi’s bullet wound]

YH: Here! That line! It’s like “Not in THE No. 6! I thought guns were restricted to Hunting Club members.”

YK: Right. They’re “restricted,” huh? Well, the same can be said of modern Japan.

YH: True enough.

YK: Shion learns more and more about the shocking reality he never knew.

YH: Right, right…

YK: So, their first encounter was in the middle of a storm.

YH: Right.

YK: This storm is supposed to be a natural phenomenon representing No. 6.

YH: Right.

YK: It’s portrayed as one of the motifs of the story. This! I can’t believe Nezumi is putting on Safu’s sweater. I don’t know. Shion’s the one who told him to put it on. When he said Nezumi could put on some clothes he had laying around, either he didn’t expect him to put on Safu’s sweater or…

YH: Or…

YK: …that was his original intent.

YH: If that’s true, then--

YK: I’d feel bad for Shion! Don’t you feel bad for Safu?

YH: Shion’s urge to help someone in need right before his eyes owtweighed his sentimental feelings.

YK: He has a sweater so it’s there to wear. But still!

YH: Regardless!

YK: I wish he’d appreciate the thought that went into that girl’s present.

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: And here we have another memorable scene. We’ll be seeing some stew and cherry cake soon. That and even this cocoa looks really good. It’s coming up… Almost there… Nezumi’s line’s coming up…

YH: It’s after this.

YK: Uh-huh… After he says, “I don’t know.”

[Nezumi says “Thank you.”]

YH: Phew… The director called cut after I said that line. That’s when you told me that it made you happy when Nezumi told Shion, “Thank you.”

YK: Yeah!

YH: I remember that really well. It made me happy.

YK: It was like, well, I know that you were telling that to Shion, so it was just a matter of getting to hear you say that line. Even though he’s still young, he’s spent his life in the West District, not the Lost Town. Actually he wasn’t even in the West District since he’s been locked up. I seriously doubt that Nezumi has ever given such a heartfelt thank you before. Even if he’s outright used the words “thank you” before, I don’t think he’s ever said it from the heart, you know?

YH: Probably not. He doesn’t seem like the type.

YK: Right? The DVDs and BDs for episode 1 are already on sale and several episodes have already aired. I think a bunch have already aired. So, what was my point? Shion seemed… to have really made Nezumi happy when he said that.

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: He put all of his soul into saying that.

YH: He did.

YK: It feels like we just recorded it the other day.

YH: I know, doesn’t it?

YK: That scene really let me feel just how important that was to Nezumi. He smiled after Shion said all that stuff without thinking. There is a scene later where Nezumi tells him to never say that again and Shion swears he won’t.

YH: I remember that.

YK: Shion realizes that Nezumi has been bottling his emotions deep within his heart and has spent his days as a lone wolf. It makes Shion a little nervous when he realizes how much Nezumi cares for him.

YH: I see, I see.

YK: He is really interested in Nezumi, and he thinks that Nezumi cares for him. But he doesn’t know how important he is to Nezumi.

YH: Ah, I get what you mean.

YK: I think that was the first time he catches a glimpse of how Nezumi feels. I could really empathize with Shion. Not that this really applies to episode 1!

YH: Sure doesn’t!

YK: I kinda jumped ahead.

YH: It’s okay, it’d okay. I get what you were saying.

YK: This show brings out so many emotions.

YH: Yeah, it does. It really does. I originally thought that Nezumi changes as the story progresses, but during the recording yesterday, during the scene with you and Sumire I realized that Nezumi isn’t changing, he’s just loosening up.

YK: He originally had those emotions inside him.

YH: He was originally this type of person.

YK: He isn’t coldhearted. Both of them have unique eyes. Apparently they developed a special new way to draw for Nezumi’s eyes. Original Character Designer toi8 and Overall Character Designer Satoshi Ishino

YH: Uh-huh.

YK: came up with the drawing method.

YH: Uh-huh. Eh?!

YK: It’s some special technique. But the eyes really are mystifying.

YH: They seem mystifying. Definitely.

YK: Those eyes kinda draw you in.

YH: It’s like they pull you in.

YK: Don’t they? [Nezumi lies down on the bed] And thus Nezumi starts to act a little moody. Shion is struck speechless when Nezumi hits him with the reality of the situation.

YH: He’s a smart boy, isn’t he?

YK: Uh-huh…

YH: That’s our Shion.

YK: Here it comes!

YH: Here it comes!

[Nezumi is teasing Shion]

YH: Oh, jeez. That was a tough scene!

YK: It’s a very childlike scene. [Nezumi imitates Shion’s scream] That scream!

YH: Oh, that scream!

YK: Supposedly Mima liked this scene, too.

YH: Really? I feel honored.

YK: His movements here are impressive. [Nezumi pinning down Shion]

YH: I was amazed! He’s like, “Shwoosh! Bang, bang!”

YK: He’s formidable!

YH: Right, right, right!

YK: No one could ever catch him. And then he says, “You’d already be dead.” And Shion’s reaction doesn’t betray your expectations. Despite the position he’s in, he’s curious how it happened.

YH: Isn’t he incredible? He’s so weird.

YK: He’s a ball of curiosity. Nezumi can’t help but laugh.

YH: It’d make anyone laugh.

YK: Normally he doesn’t laugh like this. Nezumi had never really laughed before. It’s nice how they’re acting like normal boys… Shion’s curiosity bounces from one thing to the next.

YH: In this scene, he checks Nezumi’s temperature with his forehead. He’s so curious.

YK: That’s how he was taught to check temperatures, since it’s the most accurate way.

[Nezumi says the “living humans are warm” line]

YK: That’s deep!

YH: He feels truly relieved here.

YK: That was a deep line. [scene changes to morning] And now it’s bright out!

YH: Yeah, it is!

YK: I used to wonder why it was so bright.

YH: It’s because the typhoon is gone.

YK: Yeah! The storm has truly passed. And amidst the silence…

YH: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

YK: …a lot transpires.

YH: Indeed.

YK: Nezumi is gone.

YH: Right, right. The clear sky is actually rather frightening.

YK: I wonder what was running through Shion’s head that morning.

YH: This “shwish, shwish, shwish” song!

YK: It pops out each time I watch it.

YH: There’s the cocoa!

YK: The cups have cocoa stains.

[cut to end credits]

YH: Wasn’t that done nicely?

YK: Cocoa stains…

YH: Phew!

YK: My, that went by fast!

YH: I swear, it did!

YK: We talked the whole time, didn’t we?

YH: We never ran out of things to discuss.

YK: These closing credits make me so happy.

YH: Yeah, they really make me happy.

YK: Aimer performed this song, “Rokutousei no Yoru.” It’s too good!

YH: It’s too good of a song.

YK: Honestly, the first time I heard it…

YH: It was during an interview, wasn’t it?

YK: It was during an on-the-spot interview with reporters. Mima was goofing off and turned the song on. Was it after episode 1?

YH: Episode 1 was over.

YK: So it was episode 2?

YH: Was it?

YK: I guess!

YH: Is that right?

YK: After the episode was over, he played the song. It was such a good song that I felt like we were seeing the final episode.

YH: Right, exactly! It felt like the last episode.

YK: It practically made me cry the first time I heard it. So, the title is “Rokutousei no Yoru.” The darkest stars you can see with the naked eye are called “Rokutousei.” The brightest stars are called “Ittousei.” “Rokutousei no Yoru”… That’s kinda sad!

YH: What’s with that?!

YK: It’s depressing!

YH: Yikes! What gives?

YK: It means the night sky with the darkest stars.

YH: That’s nuts!

YK: The darkest stars…

YH: What’s with that name?

YK: When they were deciding on an ending theme, the directors agreed on this song after listening to it once. It’s too perfect.

YH: That’s amazing!

YK: You could say those stars light the way through the darkness. It’s nice how this depicts the changing of seasons.

YH: The changing seasons…

YK: It makes you wonder what awaits them next. That really went by fast!

YH: Didn’t it?

[preview for next episode]

YK: Oh, look!

YH: Here’s the preview!

YK: It’s predicting what will happen in episode 2. They’ve grown bigger.

YH: They’ve grown up.

YK: Well, episode 1 had a lot of intriguing occurrences, but we get even more in episode 2! They’re growing up.

YH: They’ve matured.

YK: Shion and Nezumi will get reunited. And that will lead to episode 3!

YH: Right.

YK: Well, altogether there are eleven episodes. There’s no time to waste.

YH: There isn’t.

YK: Each episode is serious and important. As such, I hope that you will continue to watch No.6!

YH: Please do!

YK: Let’s meet up again in episode 2!

YH: Yeah!

YK: Bye-bye!

YH: Bye-bye!

Wah, thanks so much for your effort, Weisel! *-* OMG! Kaji is talking so much, lol. XD Hosoya is like a shy little girl and mostly agreeing. ^^° But it's nice, there's a lot of trivia. *-* (Haha, Kaji...we also thought it would be better to give Nezumini and Minishion younger voices. <.< Especially Nezumi. He's 12, not 30.) But at least Kaji understands that Shion isn't appreciating Safu's sweater. ^^° Ahhhh! Too much information, too early in the morning. @.@

THANK YOU SO MANY MANY TIMES WEISEL BLESS THIS IS GREAT!!!

Oh man I love it!
I'm personally happy that the names are unusual to the voice actors too, I was wondering if that was just me, haha.
And Kaji really is a fan of No. 6 that's so great! (I mean it's obvious from some of the drama CDs and manga extras too, but he really knows his stuff here, haha) YES KAJI SHION SHOULD FEEL BAD FOR SAFU ABOUT THE SWEATER.
I love how Hosoya's main input is basically agreeing and just saying how cute/unique etc Shion is, pff.

And a special drawing technique for Nezumi's eyes. OF COURSE.

(I am so proud of Kaji for remembering my country and not keeping it to Germany, haha. Though water-bus as the main transport in No. 6? Did they even have enough water? Huh. I should probably rewatch...)

This is PERFECT. oh my goodness. I didn't realize I needed this in my life.

Yuki Kaji is SUCH a fanboy. XD I love it. He totally loves the series as much as we do.

(also, is integNezumied a word? .__. or am I really out of the loop.)

This makes me really want to rewatch the anime just to see and hear what they're talking about. aaaa thank you!! <3

Ahhh, you're welcome, everyone! (And I thought of you @listenforthelove when they were mixing up Amsterdam's location!) I'll definitely keep doing at least one episode every day off until it's all done. Also Nezumi's VA was just humming in agreement pretty much everywhere that he's not actually saying "yes" or "right." These two are a riot to listen to. Also they got off topic several times, so if it doesn't actually match up to what's going on in the anime, I didn't mention where it was in the episode. Were the added comments helpful when they were actually talking about something currently going on in the show?

OMFG @meopat I was wondering what you were talking about! Sorry, that's a result of me using "find and replace" for the word "rat" to "Nezumi" when I finished and I didn't check for errors afterwords... I'll fix it! (I'm embarrassed but also laughing...)

edit: there, fixed it *sweats nervously*

Amazing work! It's really interesting.
Shion's Voice actor liked No.6, no surprise now why Drama CDs and Shion's wasp/bee extraction is sooo well played. So good that I just can't listen last drama cd (Safu death, Nezumi got shot, ending of manga) because it's heartbreaking.
I would write something more but I'm so tired after 7 hour trip to home that I would probably write some stupid things XD

X'DDD God, I think it's so extremely funny. Just imagine Shion talking like that and Nezumi is just: "hm... ok...YES AGREE! Mm...agree...mhhh...agree..."
God, he's such a chatterbox. I think I've read something concerning episode 2 a while a go... and Safu's VA was also there. I think she also didn't say that much. XD When Kaji is there, they just can't get a word in edgewise.

But it's so cute that he's a fanboy and that he even downloaded that background thing XD

(GOD But really, you can't raise your head and scream and record like that. o_o° Unless they have microphones at the ceiling X'D Otherwise they can't record it properly.)

I'll get episode 2 up later today, too! And yes, Safu's VA is there! It's an absolute riot with the three of them there. It's just like how I imagine the characters would be hanging out as friends. (I lost it when Yamase was dying and Safu's VA and Shion's VA started singing "Kaze no Requiem" and Nezumi's VA's just screaming in the background.)

Episode 2, part 1:

(Again, sorry for any errors. Didn't use find and replace this time at least!)

KY: Okay, so I am going to be leading this audio commentary for No.6.

YH: Right.

YK: You sure are!

KY: Yep! I’m Kiyono Yasuno, Safu’s voice actress.

YK: I’m Yuki Kaji.

YH: And I’m Yoshimasa Hosoya.

KY: We’ll be presenting the commentary!

YH: Yep!

YK: Yay!

KY: Yay!

YK: This time Kiyono Yasuno will be joining us.

KY: Right!

YH: Isn’t this your first commentary?

KY: Right! This is the first audio commentary I’ve ever been in!

YK: You didn’t even know what an audio commentary was until just recently, did you?

YH: Right, right!

KY: Nope!

YK: That came as a shock to me.

KY: Didn’t I even ask, “What is an audio commentary?”

YH: It’s when we all get to talk.

YK: Right, right.

KY: Yep!

YK: Doesn’t the way we’re chatting feel like we’re hanging out in someone’s room?

YH: Yeah, it does!

KY: It really does!

YK: It’s like we’re chilling while watching the show.

YH: Doesn’t it?

YK: So anyway, let’s loosen up.

KY: Okay.

YK: And chat while we watch the show.

YH: Right!

KY: We’ll keep it relaxed.

YK: And I can share some basic trivia.

YH: Yeah, uh-huh.

KY: We can share that while watching.

YK: Right, we’ll chat while we watch the show!

KY: Right.

YK: So, Yasukiyo!

KY: Yes!

YK Do a good job leading the commentary.

KY: What--?!

YK: “Wha--?!”

KY: Okay, so--

YK: Ding, ding!

KY: We’re going to start the commentary now.

YK: Uh-huh.

KY: This is episode 2, right?

YK: Right. Episode 1 took place when they were boys.

YH: That’s right.

KY: Right.

YK: But they’re already adults by episode 2.

YH: They’re all grown up now.

KY: Right.

YK: It’s probably confusing people who aren’t familiar with the novels.

YH: I bet they’re confused!

YK: Is this the same story as episode 1?

YH: They were so young in the previous episode!

YK: Right, right. I’m sure a lot of people felt that way.

KY: Sion’s really become handsome!

YK: Seriously! He’s become a man.

KY: He’s become handsome!

YH: He’s manly!

YK: But doesn’t Safu become more ladylike as well?

KY: Well, I couldn’t say!

YK: We’re assuming that our viewers have already seen the episode.

KY: Really?

YH: Uh-huh…

KY: But I figured there’s a bunch of people who didn’t have No. 6 broadcast in their area, so they’re seeing it for the first time on DVD.

YK: Right.

KY: With that in mind…

YK: I don’t think they’d start with the audio commentary.

KY: Probably not!

YH: Nope!

KY: So, they watched episode 2 first.

YK: Right, they’ve seen it.

KY: And then they goof off by watching the commentary.

YK: Right, right.

YH: Right…

KY: Okay.

YK: What do you think of this opening? We already did the audio commentary for episode 1.

YH: We’ve commented on it.

KY: Is that right?!

YK: It sure is! So we’ve already talked about this opening.

KY: Okay.

YK: Yasukiyo, what do you think of it?

YH: What are your thoughts on this opening?

KY: This opening is really…

YK: …kinda deep isn’t it?

KY: …deep, you know? It’s like they were in a beehive, but then it bursts open!

YK: Right.

KY: And then they’re, “Whoosh!” into the sky!

YK: They’re casting a spell.

KY: They’re casting a spell, huh?

YK: And then all of their past memories whoosh away!

KY: Yeah, right, right.

YK: I’m sure that there are some who wondered

KY: Uh-huh.

YK: who this white-haired guy in the coat is, even after watching episode 2.

KY: I know!

YH: Yeah.

KY: Probably.

YK: And check out that logo! That’s the logo!

KY: It’s a logo of a bee.

YH: There’s a bee logo.

YK: Yeah, there is. Yasukiyo, could you tell us about it?

KY: Okay. Regarding the logo of a bee in the opening credits that is displayed with the “No. 6” Production Committee…

YK: It was with the Production Committee, wasn’t it?

KY: Wasn’t it? Producer Takeeda of Fuji TV

YH: Uh-huh.

KY: declared that he would like to put in a distinct logo.

YK: Okay.

KY: He cast aside the concerns of those around him like, “Huh? Why a bee? Why should we put in a logo?” and added it in the credits anyway.

YK: Your voice sounded so serious,

YH: I see…

YK: but your wording was so flippant.

KY: I guess so.

YH: Yeah, you made it sound insignificant!

KY: I just did what felt natural!

YK: There was already an official website out when they first announced that No. 6 would get an anime. When they opened the site, you could download some backgrounds. They had already decided on this bee logo by that time.

KY: Okay.

YH: That’s right.

KY: Is that right?

YK: I think that this logo is necessary for the story behind No. 6.

KY: It sure is! That logo is really cool.

YK: Isn’t it?

KY: I put my scripts in a folder that Producer Kurosu gave me with that logo on it.

YK: Uh-huh. He gave us those folders, didn’t he?

YH: He sure did.

KY: Yeah. Someone noticed some staff holding the folder at the episode 1 preview and started squealing, “I want one!”

YK: So he gave it to him?

KY: Yep! He sure did! Oh, gosh!

YH: I’m not surprised.

KY: Do you think you could buy that at a noitaminA shop? [noitaminA is a Fuji Television’s late night anime block]

YK: I don’t know about the merchandise. When I went to the store--

KY: Kaji, you’ve already gone?!

YK: I sure did.

KY: Wow!

YH: Wow, you rushed over.

YK: I’ve told you about it before!

KY: You did?

YK: Weren’t you paying attention?

KY: Not at all!

YH: I paid attention, but I went along with her.

KY: So when did you go?

YK: When? It’ll have been a while by the time this hits the shelves.

KY: Really?

YK: Uh-huh. I had an opportunity to make some stickers.

KY: Oh, yeah! That’s right!

YK: Remember me telling you?

KY: You sure did!

YK: Right. I wrote my name, Yuki Kaji, by a picture of Sion.

KY: It was right next to Sion. You put Yuki Kaji, right?

YK: Then two guys asked me to make my own stickers.

KY: Right.

YH: Right. I remember that.

YK: It was a lot of fun.

YH: Oh, it’s little Sion! [during the flashback to Sion being questioned by the Bureau of Security]

KY: Little Sion!

YK: Little? Yeah, I guess it’s Little Sion.

KY: Shrimpy Sion is cute!

YK: Don’t call him that! You’re going to see Safu soon!

KY: Yep, I know…

YK: She’s going to start talking. Do you remember this part? [regarding the scene where Sion and Safu get coffee together]

KY: I remember it!

YK: It’s only eleven episodes long.

KY: Right!

YK: It has a limited number of episodes, but that’s part of what makes each and every episode so memorable. Don’t you remember all of them pretty well?

KY: I sure do!

YK: This downward slope comes up in several episodes, so it’s memorable. [the stairs in Lost Town near Karan’s bakery]

KY: Yep! It is, isn’t it? It’s amazing how well they portrayed the feeling of the town inside of No. 6! They put a lot of detail into it.

YH: I personally like this situation where they’re walking down the slope at sunset.

KY: Yeah!

YK: Sion and Safu are walking down it now, and later his mother, Karan, will walk down it with Safu.

YH: That’s right.

KY: She’ll walk with Karan! And Lili walks along this road countless times.

YK: Right. I remember seeing that.

KY: Yeah… [Safu comments on Sion’s behavior] Safu is very observant. Just what I’d expect of a young lady!

KY: This is the scene where Safu sees through Sion, isn’t it?

YK: She’s going to get drawn into a lot of stuff. Same for their coats!

YH: Right!

KY: Oh, their coats!

YK: It becomes a pretty big key word.

YH: It sure does!

KY: “Coat” is a key word!

YK: It becomes key.

KY: Safu’s coat and maybe her scarf are key words, right? I hope you get to see why!

YK: Here’s some trivia for you.

KY: Trivia? Okay.

YK: Remember the scene with the robots in the park?

YH: Right, right, right.

YK: Remember that?

YH: I remember that.

YK: I think that those who have watched the show already noticed,

KY: Okay.

YK: but there is No.1, No.2, and No.3.

KY: No.1, No.2, and No.3?

YK: They’re cleaning robots.

KY: They’re cleaning robots?

YK: We’ll get to see them later.

KY: You only get to see them for a split second.

YK: Right.

KY: But if you look closely, they’re adorable!

YH: Right.

KY: What was No.1? An elephant?

YK: An elephant? Was No.1 an elephant?

KY: Was it an elephant? There’s an elephant, a giraffe, and a penguin.

YK: And a penguin.

YH: A penguin…

KY: There’s an elephant, a giraffe, and a penguin.

YK: No.3 is the most, you know?

YH: Right!

KY: Yep!

YK: It’s the most memorable.

KY: You get to see it in action.

YK: But that won’t be for a while.

KY: Right.

YK: So, their motifs were animals.

KY: Right.

YK: Apparently there is a reason for that.

YH: Oh, really?

YK: Director Nagasaki was the one who added them to the show.

KY: Okay, so?

YK: Since this series has so many serious scenes,

KY: Uh-huh.

YK: he wanted to put in as many cheery scenes as possible.

KY: The director seems to like animals a lot.

YH: He sure does!

KY: Seriously!

[“I want to have sex with you.”]

YK: You just said it!

KY: There it was! No-oh-oh-oh!

YK: Man, even after having read the novels,

KY: Yes?

YK: that scene made me jump.

KY: It’s an important scene, isn’t it? She said it really bluntly, but I don’t think Safu, how to put it? I don’t think she was just throwing that out there. I think she was confessing her feelings for him!

YK: Yeah, that’s right.

KY: She was, wasn’t she?

YK: She was.

KY: Okay. But do you think Sion understood that she was confessing to him?

YK: I doubt it.

YH: But he seems to feel kinda bad about it.

KY: He feels really bad about it.

YK: It went over his head, but…

YH: He feels put out, doesn’t he?

[“Two years.”]

Episode 2, part 2:

YK: Because he didn’t realize she was confessing to him. She’s told him she likes him, but I don’t think Sion gets the concept that equals going steady.

YH: It doesn’t…

YK: That’s why Safu calls him a “child” and “naïve.”

KY: He just said he’d ask her about it in two years.

YK: He sure did.

YH: I actually really like this exchange. It’s like, “In two years, I’ll ask you if you want to have sex.” “Wanna have sex?” just sounds kinda sharp. This works well.

KY: It works since they’re so close.

YK: Yeah.

[Nezumi has his first line through the rat]

KY: Ah! It’s him!

YH: Mission: Impossible!

KY: Here he comes! It’s time!

YH: Or something.

YK: Yeah, this is…

KY: Isn’t the music here just too cool?

[car zooms by]

YK: Voom!

YH: Wow!

KY: Watch out for the car!

YH: Watch it; that was dangerous.

KY: That was close! This is pretty! [cuts to the steps outside the bakery] The scene changes are pretty.

YK: Safu must have been shocked.

YH: Yeah!

KY: Yep.

YH: I like this scene, too.

KY: Yeah! He left her behind.

YK: She wants an explanation.

[“Were you asleep?”]

YH: Don’t ask if he was asleep! Sheesh! “I’m sorry, I wasn’t!”

KY: Hosoya is writing in agony! [in regards to the scene where Shion is on the balcony at night] Look at that starry sky!

YK: Isn’t it pretty?

KY: It certainly is!

YH: I love this sky! It’s too much for me! It’s the Milky Way!

KY: The Milky Way? That’s the Milky Way?

YK: Those aren’t rokutousei… But what will the stars be like in the West District?

KY: But I bet the stars will look even prettier from the West District.

YK: Yep! I bet they will.

YH: I’d think so. [Sion and Safu’s call ends] “Sion, you jerk!”

KY: “Sion, you jerk!”

YK: It can’t be helped.

[Lili enters the bakery]

KY: Oh, she’s cute!

YK: That’s Sumire’s voice.

KY: It’s Sumire!

YH: It sure is.

KY: It’s Lili!

YK: It’s Sumire.

KY: And that’s Yoming. Uncle Yo?!

YK: I want to eat some bread.

KY: I want some bread!

YH: Doesn’t it look good?

YK: It looks good, doesn’t it?

KY: I want some cravats. [they originally put ciabatta here for some reason??]

YK: Eh?!

KY: Eh?

YK: That threw me off! I thought you meant a rat, not bread.

KY: That’s not what I meant!

YK: You meant the pastry, right?

KY: Right, right.

YK: That really shocked me!

KY: I meant the original meaning of the word.

YK: I wondered why you’d want to eat Nezumi when you love Sion so much.

KY: I’ll eat you up!

YK: Poor Nezumi!

KY: Squeak! But I bet Sion likes his mom’s cravats. I bet he helped her with the cravats. [again with the ciabatta??]

YK: You think?

KY: I’m sure theres is some on one of these shelves!

YK: Do you think his mom makes that?

KY: There’s no way that hairless Sion would approve otherwise!

YK: Don’t call him hairless! He has some! But this bakery doesn’t focus on breads.

KY: It sells pastries! Pastries… I’m sure she has some! I take the side that she has some.

YK: What side?

KY: The one where she has it! [Sion comes downstairs] Good morning, Sion.

YK: Safu just said that… But you know, Sion and Karan have…

YH: He’s a good boy.

YK: …similar airs about them.

KY: Their faces actually really resemble each other!

YH: Yeah! He definitely takes after his mother.

KY: Yeah.

YK: His father is shrouded in mystery.

KY: His dad sure is. Sion’s dad…

YK: This… After this scene…

KY: Yes?

YK: See? Sion’s mother gives him a little peck on the forehead.

KY: Kiss!

YK: According to rumors…

KY: Kiss!

YH: Yeah?

YK: According to the rumors…

YH: Yeah, uh-huh.

YK: Remember how Safu kissed Sion in episode 1? And he kisses Nezumi later. We get to see different types of kisses in various memorable situations. Each kiss has a different meaning.

KY: So all the kisses have different meanings?

YK: That’s right.

YH: right.

YK: It’s like, “What does each kiss mean to Sion?” Apparently that’s why they were put in the story.

KY: Then you should pay special attention to the kisses.

YK: They’re important. [Sion arrives at work] It’s Yamase.

YH: Yamase!

KY: Yamase!

YK: It’s Yamase, who dies in his first episode.

KY: He dies!

YH: Ah! Isn’t that a Sampo? [on Yamase’s desk]

YK: You’re right!

KY: Sampo! Sampo!

YK: It looks like a pot or something.

KY: What is it? What do you think that Sampo is?

YK: A figurine!

KY: Probably a paperweight. Yamase!

YH: Maybe coffee comes out of it.

YK: Maybe. It pours coffee…

YH: …if you push down its head.

KY: Yamase must love Sampo!

YK: But it looks like you can push its head down!

KY: I bet it does something.

YK: Even though this is a futuristic setting, their clothes don’t seem that different from ours.

KY: Nope!

YK: The coffee pot was over there!

KY: Huh? Then what was that?

[shot with all the monitors showing the park]

YH: It’s scary how everyone is watched in No. 6.

KY: Yeah…

YK: Here’s the line!

[“Yamase, it’s possible that the authorities have been manipulating information…”]

YK: You’re being recorded.

YH: Now he’s done it!

YK: What could have recorded…

KY: Don’t tell me that Sampo recorded him…! Now he’s done it.

YH: That was the recorder?!

YK: It’s for eavesdropping!

YH: But it’s so obvious!

KY: Its eyes just gleamed! It has a camera hidden in it. [the Sampo wasn’t in the shot, she’s just kidding]

YH: Yamase? Yamase?

[Yamase starts dying]

KY: Yamase!

YK: Yamase!

All: No!

YK: If Sion saved him, he may have stopped aging like Sion does! It’s too late!

YH: He ran out of time!

KY: Yamase’s already bald!

YK: Yamase aged quickly, didn’t he?

KY: It was fast, wasn’t it?

YH: It was fast.

YK: Sion was pretty, you know? [Yamase is dead] Ah!

YH: Ah!

KY: Ah!

YK: My back would give out, too.

KY: This is probably the most grotesque scene in the series.

YH: What a shocker!

YK: Sure is.

KY: Yeah…

YK: Something’s sprouting out! People unfamiliar with the story probably didn’t understand what’s happening. They’d be like, “What?! What?! What?!”

KY: Or, “Eh?!”

YH: Or, “Why’d that come out of him?!”

KY: “What’s that?”

YK: It’s all slimy!

KY: Gross!

YH: Crap! I’m getting goose bumps!

[YK and KY sing Kaze no Requiem while YH screams]

YK: Well, that’s it for Part 1.

KY: Yep.

YH: The sound of its wings flapping sounded real!

KY: Yeah, seriously!

YK: From here out, the story moves at an amazing speed!

YH: Yeah!

KY: Sion tumbles down further and further.

YK: Aren’t the next fifteen minutes amazing?

KY: Yep!

YH: Yeah!

KY: Isn’t episode 2 amazing? [security guard speaks] There’s another nice voice. “Rank A.” Murakami said that line.

YK: They record everything…

KY: Yeah…

YK: …in detail.

KY: It’s scary how they’ve recorded everything up to five minutes ago, isn’t it?

YH: Yeah.

YK: My…

YH: They’re taking him away.

KY: They’re kidnapping him!

YK: “Stolen away” [sung as in Kaze no Requiem] “Sion is stolen away by the Bureau of Public Safety”

[YH and KY join in]

YK: That’s what happened. Eek, that’s scary! There…

YH: The music sounds ominous.

KY: Yeah, it’s coming up.

YK: You’ll catch… a quick glimpse of his mom.

KY: Scary! That’s scary!

YH: Listen to that. [in reference to the recording of Sion]

KY: They taped him!

YH: Why do you think they recorded him?

YK: I bet he’s been marked since that one incident!

YH: They probably--

KY: They must have marked him!

YK: They’ve probably been recording him ever since he helped Nezumi escape!

YH: That makes sense.

KY: Yikes! This is a scary place.

YK: It’s amazing nothing has happened until now.

KY: He spent four years in peace. He didn’t do anything, you know?

YK: Does this mean his conversation with Safu…?

YH: Probably!

KY: Ah, they already bugged him!

YK: I see!

KY: It’s his bracelet!

YH: It was probably the bracelet.

KY: It was the bracelet!

YH: There was probably a hidden…

YK: …recording device, right? Then that means they recorded Safu’s conversation about sex.

KY: That’s embarrassing!

YH: That must have thrown them off!

KY: That wasn’t public information! Sheesh!

YK: The person who heard that must have snorted!

YH: Hey, now!

YK: He might have laughed at them!

KY: It made some stiff guy snort!

YK: Right!

YH: Right, right.

YK: “I’ll tune out just for right now.”

KY: “Just for now!”

YH: He’s nice! He’s just a wee bit nice!

KY: “I want to live, guys!”

YK: The big pot has made its appearance. [referring to the Sampo on the bridge]

YH: And here he comes!

[Nezumi makes his appearance]

KY: There he is!

YH: Who is this guy? Well!

Episode 2, part 3:

KY: He’s kinda tall!

YK: It’s Nezumi! Not everyone recognized Nezumi--

KY: I’m really cool for recognizing him right off the bat!

YK: There are some who may not have instantly recognized him.

KY: Right. Wow!

YK: My…

KY: The first time I saw Nezumi in this scene in the anime, I thought he was stylish.

YH: How so?

KY: Well, he’s wearing that cool jacket, you know?

YH: Yeah. When he was a kid…

KY: Yeah! He was in a baggy shirt.

YH: Yep. Right, right. It was all baggy. Same as in the opening.

KY: When he first entered the scene I thought he looked like one of those stylish guys from Harajuku.

YK: Harajuku?! From Harajuku?! Seriously, Harajuku? [Nezumi and Sion are both in the car now] They’ve been reunited.

KY: It’s like, cool how the two ends of his scarf flutter behind him when he runs.

YK: Yeah… Now that I look closely, Rat is really white.

YH: He sure is, despite having lived in a harsh environment.

YK: Right, right. Normally you think he’d be dark with a tan.

KY: I figured it out! This superfiber cloth can also block UV rays.

[“Superfiber cloth?”]

YH: He just said it! Your timing was impeccable!

YK: It’s the superfiber cloth!

KY: Superfiber cloth!

YK: It’s hard to tell what “chosei cloth” means just by listening.

YH: Yeah, it is. I couldn’t tell.

YK: “Cho!” “Cho” means “super!”

KY” “Cho!” Super!

YH: So it’s superfiber cloth!

KY: Superfiber cloth!

YK: And that’s what it means, everyone.

KY: It’s superfiber cloth.

YK: Please go back and read the novels anew.

KY: Okay!

YK: Thus Nezumi has saved him.

KY: Right.

YK: Now they’re going to make a run for it.

KY: They’re fleeing!

YK: Yasukiyo, please share some behind-the-scenes info for this spot.

KY: Okay! During the escape scene after Nezumi rescues Sion,

YK: Uh-huh.

KY: there’s a spot where they race down a hill.

YK: That’s going on right now!

KY: Right, they’re descending the hill. He takes his ID and “Ugh!”

YK: What?

KY: “Get rid of it!”

YK: What’s his problem? Well, he has people waiting for him.

KY: Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! [in time with the flashbacks]

YH: Right, right. And he… throws it away!

KY: He throws it! Mom!

YK: He tossed it.

YH: Yeah.

KY: He tossed his ID bracelet. And then squeak! Squeak, squeak, squeak! That rat picks up his ID and runs off. Believe it or not, but up until this point,

YK: Uh-huh.

KY: Fullmetal Alchemist’s Director Yasuhiro Irie drew the key animation for this scene.

YK: They used a big shot!

YH: Wow!

KY: Supposedly he drew that scene.

YH: He drew that…

YK: The action in that scene was great.

KY: Right.

YH: It had a lot of emotion.

KY: Really, he made Nezumi’s movements so smooth!

YK: And now…

KY: It was like, “shwoosh, shwoosh!”

YK: Sion’s calmed down.

YH: Sion’s all calm and collected.

KY: Right.

YH: He feels safe, huh?

KY: Sion doesn’t act distraught, does he?

YK: Nezumi has the guts to say he’s taller, but Sion retorts right back at him.

KY: You’re right! Nezumi is really white!

YK: He’s so white he’s pale!

KY: He’s white! He’s pale!

YK: He’s the same color as me.

YH: He’s the exact same color as you, Kaji!

YK: Yeah. I may have been raised in the West District.

YH: Kaji, you’re white!

KY: Really?

YH: That’d make sense.

YK: Just maybe…

KY: Well, Sion’s brown hair is going to… you know?

YK: Yeah.

KY: His brown hair…

YK: Yeah!

YH: Let’s enjoy it for now! We’ve got to burn it to memory!

KY: Let’s burn it to memory!

YK: Yeah, it’s only around until the middle of episode 3.

KY: Right.

YK: Then we don’t get to see it anymore.

YH: At this point, Sion takes jokes seriously.

YK: Right.

YH: He’s pretty serious.

KY: He seems so naïve, doesn’t he?

YK: It’s like he only evaluates things based on his own values, you know?

KY: He has innocent eyes.

YK: But over time he starts to develop a better understanding of things.

KY: It’s like he’s still--

YK: He surpasses Nezumi’s expectations.

KY: Right.

YK: Or so it seems.

KY: He grows and matures, but now he’s still naïve.

YK: Yep. I believe that now. I originally thought that he was a resilient kid with a strong backbone. But looking back now that we’re done with the recording, he doesn’t seem to have broken free from his soft environment.

KY: He’s still very innocent at this point.

YK: Isn’t he? Even his expressions will change.

KY: Yeah, they will!

YH: Yeah, uh-huh!

YK: I can’t believe Nezumi right there! [when Nezumi speeds up the car to crash through the gate]

KY: 100 km/s! They hit 100 km/s!

YH: Freaky! That’s scary if you think about it.

YK: Yeah!

KY: It’s more--

YH: This is scarier than a roller coaster!

KY: Scary!

YK: Just yesterday he basically went on a date with Safu.

KY: Yeah!

YK: He probably never dreamed…

YH: …of this!

YK: that he’d be in a situation where they’d lose the roof of a car!

KY: Yeah. This was his very first roller coaster experience.

YK: Yeah! So, do you think No. 6 has something like an amusement park?

YH: What do you think?

KY: An amusement park?

YK: Village district!

KY: Village district?

YK: It seems like they’d have one.

YH: Doesn’t it?

KY: I wonder…

YK: But I don’t know if they actually have one…

KY: Even if they did, there would be a bunch of pickpockets.

YH: Check out Nezumi! [Nezumi’s puts on goggles]

YK: Nezumi in goggles!

YH: He’s kinda… he’s kinda weird, isn’t he?

YK: He is, isn’t he?

KY: I feel like they’re about to do synchronized swimming.

YH: That floor looks real.

YK: Nezumi’s super cute when he jumps. [into the sewer]

KY: Super cute! Boing! He extended both his legs!

YK: Wow! This is something else!

KY: Isn’t it?! Sion…

YK: I’d love it if Sion took off his coat.

YH: Yeah, yeah! I remember you mentioning that before!

KY: Good point!

YK: I bet it’s stinky and heavy.

KY: It’s got to be heavy!

YK: Even just carrying it would be a pain. He’s soaking wet.

KY: He’s so soaked.

YK: But so is Nezumi.

[shot of spots forming on Sion’s neck]

All: No!

YH: What is that?!

KY: No!

YH: What was that?!

YK: I hope it’s just an itchy rash.

KY: I know! [Nezumi opened the manhole cover] I love how Nezumi peeks out.

YH: I love this sky. I love it!

YK: I love this sky.

KY: This sky?

YK: This is the first time Sion’s been in the West District.

KY: Right.

YH: He made it.

KY: Yeah! Once he comes to the West District, the world takes on a yellow hue. There’s a blue hue inside of No. 6. It gives the image of a clear blue.

YK: It’s blue.

YH: It does.

YK: It doesn’t have sand, dirt, or dust.

KY: The world becomes colorful when they enter the West District. Yeah…

YH: It looks kinda like a painting.

YK: We get to see a lot of different shots of the city.

KY: Right.

YH: This song matches it perfectly.

YK: It’s scary!

YH: It has this hideous feeling to it.

KY: Right. It feels like No. 6’s music could swallow you up.

[shot scans across the landscape]

YK: Most impressive.

KY: Amazing.

YH: And here at the end, Nezumi says his big line.

KY: Check out that wall. Right.

[“Welcome to the real world.”]

YH: This is the real world!

YK: Right. Everything until now was all an illusion.

KY: It was all an illusion! It was all an illusion!

YH: We don’t monitor all of your actions!

KY: It was all a dream.

YK: Well, that’s episode 2.

KY: Right.

YK: We’ve just watched through it.

KY: We just watched through the episode.

YK: Yasukiyo, what did you think?

YH: How was it?

KY: Well, episode 2 took some crazy turns. Actually, we casually chatted right through some big scenes, didn’t we?

YH: The show kept on going while we were busy talking about the noitaminA shop!

KY: We skipped right over stuff! It feels like we plowed right on through. Yeah…

YK: Well, in the episode, after the closing credits, there is an illustration of one of the scenes.

KY: Right, there’s a final illustration.

YK: I believe we get to see one of toi8’s illustrations and hear a line. Every week, Takeeda of Fuji TV carefully selected a major line to use.

KY: A major line?

YK: During their discussions about what picture to use, they also discussed which lines to use. Careful consideration went into selecting which line to use in each and every episode.

KY: Okay.

YK: The lines are pulled from the next episode. Since they don’t have an animated preview,

KY: Right.

YK: they needed it to represent the episode.

KY: Right.

YK: That’s what they were going for.

KY: So they didn’t randomly pick out those lines!

YK: That’s right!

YH: Exactly!

KY: It was all thought out!

YK: It’s amazing.

YH: They had strong resolve!

KY: Yeah!

YH: You can really tell.

YK: If they asked for a simple sketch, they’d get something super high quality.

KY: It’d be super high quality! Seriously, this is all such high quality.

YK: Well, it originally didn’t have preview. The previews that were put on the official site have been added in.

KY: Right. The DVDs come with previews!

YK: Right. That’s right.

KY: I was really hoping they would put in some interesting previews.

YK: Yeah!

YH: Yeah!

KY: Are there any?

YK: Does it come with some?

KY: Maybe it’ll come on after this.

YK: It’s in the special menu!

KY: You can check it out in the special menu!

[shot of the mice]

KY: Yay!

YH: Cute!

YK: Rats! Their physiques vary a little.

KY: That picture of those three rats is my desktop background!

YK: Really?

KY: Yep.

YK: Well, that’s a wrap.

KY: Yep.

YH: Yeah.

KY: See you in episode 3!
