Conference Room / Abroad Studies
« on: July 29, 2015, 09:05:34 am »
Hello! Been a while! Sorry bout that.

The other day I showed a friend of mine No. 6 and he asked me something I couldn't answer so I wanted to bring it here to discuss. Why is going to study abroad a thing in No. 6? It kinda seems to be the opposite of everything No. 6 stands for. I mean, No.6 is the greatest city of them all, why would they feel like education elsewhere would be better? And even if it's just for the experience of being someplace else, why would No. 6 encourage that? Could it be a part of Babylon treaty?

Karan's Bakery / 25+ years-old Nezumi/Shion
« on: March 15, 2015, 10:09:17 pm »
*having a nosebleed* well I think the title is kinda self-explanatory but, we just talk so much about 12, 16, and 20 years-old Nezumi/Shion, I want to talk about them when they're more into their adulthood ^^ Also, 5 years after the reunion, anyone?

(I just realized I probably put this in the wrong thread and I have absolutely no idea how to change it or even if I can change it so...)

Latch Building / Biblical Allusions in No. 6
« on: February 21, 2015, 01:52:17 pm »
So, the idea of Eve and Shion's snake scar was referred too more than once, but I'd like to take it a little further. Since I'm not very religious and studied only the Hebrew Bible, and even that in a very secular way, excuse me if I make any statements that offend you or just seem to be different from your understanding of the Fall of Man or the Bible in general.

Shion, as an elite, is most certainly one of the most powerful people in No. 6, and yet, he feels unfulfilled, for reasons he can't quite understand himself. Same way Adam was sad in Paradise, although he was the most intelligent and powerful being there. Then, the storm/God brings them the beautiful Eve, that tempts them to eat the Fruit of Knowledge, and as a result, Shion/Adam was banished from No.6/Paradise, and was forced to live hard, painful life in the outside world along with Eve.

Another interesting point I would like to refer to is Lilith. In the original creation story, Adam and Lilith were both created from the earth, but when they, well, were about to have sex, Lilith refused to be underneath Adam, claiming that they were equal and that they should lie down on their side. God obviously took Adam's side, because men are obviously better than women, and Lilith was banished from Paradise, leading to the creation of Eve from a part of Adam, so that she'd know she's beneath him (ah, isn't the Bible beautiful? Sexism is great. Women should be turned into demons for fighting for their rights).

My point was that Shion is supposed to be Adam, and Nezumi is Eve, but in this case Shion is calling for equality between himself and Nezumi.

Next in AoYokai's I-grew-up-in-a-country-where-Bible-studies-are-mandatory-and-now-I-know-too-much: Babylon Treaty. This is totally something that is probably completely unrelated because i doubt Asano knew about what I'm going to say next- In Hebrew, Babylon (as in the Empire) and Babel (as in the tower) are the same word. That got me thinking about how Babylon Treaty was created to separate the cities in a peaceful manner, but then again, nobody that doesn't speak Hebrew/looked this up knows this, so I don't think Asano did that intentionally.

Something a little more interesting about Babel is that it is awfully similar to No. 6, only that in the end, when it fell, the people got together rather than got separated. And yet, both tell the story of people who tried to challenge the power of God (Elyurias in this case) and had their work destroyed as a result.

And that's all of today's I know way too much about the Hebrew Bible (and yet my parent and I watched a show that made fun of all kinds of parts in the Bible and I didn't understand a lot of things but my parents did so I guess that when they went to school Bible Studies were more important or something)

Latch Building / Names in No. 6
« on: February 19, 2015, 03:13:04 pm »
I don't know how much this really counts as analysis, but I noticed that the topic of names repeats itself a lot in No. 6. There are three type of characters as far as I'm concerned:

1. Characters with names: that's a pretty common thing that I have nothing to say about. Notice that the only characters that have actual names are either from No. 6 or originally from around No. 6 (such as Rikiga). Also, Shion's name being a flower is mentioned quite a lot. I wondered for a while about Yoming's name, because (I might have already said it somewhere) it sounds more Chinese than Japanese to me (than again I don't speak Japanese and I barely speak Chinese so...) If anyone knows how Yoming's name was spelled in Japanese or in Chinese that could shed some light on the subject.

2. Characters with no names: there are several characters that are only referred too by their title, such as the man in the lab coat, Nezumi's grandma, Shion's father, Inukashi's mother.... I tend to think that these characters don't have names only because they only took part in the story in other people's thoughts, or in the man in the lab coat's case, because Safu simply didn't know and couldn't ask for his name. Shion's father can also be related to the next category, because he called himself 'Shion' in beyond.

3. Characters that go by nicknames: yes, that's right. Nezumi's turn. Of course, he isn't the only one. I have to admit that I have very little to say about Nezumi's name, mostly because I think he doesn't care about this sort of things. Also, Eve? Such as, the person who ruined paradise by gaining knowledge? I wonder why that sounds famili--oh wait the beginning of No. 6. More in the 'I don't have a name 'cause I don't give a ****' category, Inukashi. Nothing more to add about that. But then we have other characters with pretty interesting concepts.

-Fennec: of all animals Atuko Asano could choose, fennec? And for a pretty important and cruel person, he's taking this sort of offensive nickname kinda easily, don't you think?
-Rou: as I said before only people from No. 6 have actual names. Did he change it in order to get rid of his past? Also, was he really an Elder when he arrived to that place?
-Elyurias: my personal favorite, Elyurias doesn't have a name and in reality, is by itself a being that can't be defined. Pretty cool, in my opinion :)
-No.6: I realize this is not a character *but* why name your cities after numbers? Don't you have more creative things than that? Also, they chose to keep the name after they started rebuilding it, which is pretty strange.

After writing this I realized that Sasori does have a name and he's not from No. 6 but nah you get my point. (Sasori is my favorite underrated character tbh)

Karan's Bakery / Modern AU: post-reunion headcanons
« on: February 03, 2015, 07:53:55 pm »
So, some of you know about the fic I'm currently writing, Of Mice and Men, and a few days ago I realized I have no idea how to finish it -.- I probably shouldn't panic, but since it's the last chapter and it's been months since I last updated, I honestly just wanna throw the end of the fic out there and get rid of it. Because I'm not sure I should be using the forum for this sort of purpose and I don't want to make this a discussion only for people who read it (and ruin it for them): let's think of random situations that can happen in the real world if Shion and Nezumi were to reunite. I'm not looking for anything specific for the the AU I created, I just want some random inspiration on the topic so just throw ideas at me!

(In case you do want to know what the AU looked like but didn't read the fic: Nezumi used to live in London but came back to Tokyo for a while, met Shion, couple lovey-dovey stuff, Nezumi decides to go back to London)

I feel like I shouldn't be doing this, but whatever

Latch Building / Holy Day in the new No. 6
« on: November 20, 2014, 02:25:15 pm »
So, most of the fics I'm writing for the Holy Day Celebration are about the Holy Day in the new No. 6. Since one of these fics is the one that will be posted in the RC blog, I figured I probably shouldn't have headcanons in that fic that don't work with the other things we're posting on the blog.

Do you think the Holy Day will still be called the Holy Day? Because it symbolizes the old and oppressive government of No. 6, so I'm not sure they would like to keep the name. I thought  maybe they would make it their New Year or maybe the would make it a festival and call it the Phoenix Festival? Because No. 6 was born from it's ashes or something like that... what do you think?

Latch Building / No. 6's location
« on: November 09, 2014, 02:05:19 am »
So, I'm writing a fic about Nezumi's travels and it got me thinking: assuming that the No. 6 universe is similar to ours, where do you think No. 6 is? My first guess would be Japan just because... you know, but I really don't think they would choose to build their city in Japan after half of the world dies. Maybe a place with a little more natural resources. Or maybe it is on some island and that's why it's so isolated?

I don't really know much about geography, but No. 6 is in a place that has lots of gold, as Shion's father discovered, so I don't really know if islands can even have gold...? (I don't know I feel stupid I should sleep) It should also be in a place where the forest can be, and the weather is reasonable (???) so I wouldn't guess Russia for example. So I was thinking... China? Somewhere in the Americas? South Africa? I don't know much about the weather in these places so...Oh there's Australia too (I'm looking at a list of the biggest gold-mining countries) here's the list if you wanna look at potential countries: http://www.goldfacts.org/en/economic_impact/countries/

Karan's Bakery / No. 6 Role-Playing Game
« on: October 30, 2014, 06:15:59 pm »
I already suggested this in another thread but here we go, No. 6 Role-Playing Game!

The main idea is this: we have a group of people playing a bunch of OCs in different situations from the world of No. 6. For example- a meeting of the Restructural Committee, the Holy Day celebration in which the bees attacked, a group of rebels hiding from the government, a group of people from Mao, that meeting where the Babylon Treaty was signed...

How will we do this?

This is going to require some planning ahead. We would need to promote this event about a month before it happens, telling people what is the situation we'll be playing and what type of characters they will need. Also, we will tell them what time this is going to happen. Because of the different time zones, I hope to have a few sessions a day. Then, people will tell us who is their character, and what time they want to sign up for.

Now the fun part: actually playing. I have no idea how to do this, but maybe we could have some sort of a chat room? Hopefully we will have the options to set their usernames to the name of their characters so it will be easier to play. I was thinking maybe we could do it through skype (but use only the chat! No audio or video!)

Also, in every group we need someone to play a character that will keep the plot going. For example, in the Holy Celebration, a person whose character will point out that people are collapsing. If this gets through, we should have a demo session, so everyone will know how it should look like.

What do you think? Do you have any ideas about how to do this exactly? Or when to do this? Or what will we do if not enough people signed up for a certain session?

Conference Room / No.6 Wikia
« on: October 23, 2014, 01:38:51 pm »
I'm really awful with forums (which is why I was never active around here) and I have a feeling I'm posting this in the wrong place or something because I have no ideas how forums work. Also, I wasn't around as much recently, so I kinda missed the drama. I don't know what happened so I feel pretty disoriented and even more so now that everything is happening in this forum. I read about something that sounded like a shared No.6 blog I think in the 'blog of the week' thread? And on tumblr someone said the fandom is dying? But yuneyn said I shouldn't worry? (I'm using a network that blocks tumblr right now so I can't answer for the next few hours). My point is I'm very confused so what I'm about to say might be irrelevant.

So, I had some ideas for the fandom, and again this might be out of my place to suggest these things (but you guys are nice so I'm not too scared about it).

I tried to think of ways in which I could contribute to advertising the fandom and I figured visual means would be the best to grab people's attention, problem is I can't draw. At all. That made me think about an idea I had long ago about opening a 'text messages from No.6' sort of blog. I gave up on the idea because as you figured or already know, I have zero confidence and thought that the fandom will reject this sort of shallow, ooc jokes. (I don't think ooc joke are bad, I'm just saying this fandom gives me the feeling that they'll be rejected) I'm still not sure about creating such blog, but if you guys think it's a good idea, maybe I'll do it. I might need some help running it, though.

My second idea has nothing to do with advertising the fandom, but I still think it's important. The No.6 wikia. Do any of you know what's up with that? Because it seems pretty dead, and only about the anime. I don't know if there's anyone around to tell us we can't take over it, but anyway I like the idea of starting fresh the best. I think that having an organized wikia about the manga, novel, and anime would be really great for the fandom. That's going to be a huge project, and it's going to require lots of work. I'd be happy to lead it, unless some one else really wants to have this project for themselves or think I can't do it or something. To be honest I don't know much about building a wikia, but I can learn. Also, I'm not a native English speaker so I might not be as good at writing these things.
I'm gonna need help. Lots of it. That is, if you guys think it's a good idea to do this in first place.
