Forest Garden / Water Crisis - Garden Route / Cape Town
« on: January 20, 2018, 05:45:05 am »
Hello all,

I am travelling to Sth Africa in July 2018. I plan to drive from Durban to Cape Town over 2 weeks. I am concerned by the extreme drought being experienced in SA. Is the drought severely impacting the beauty of the Garden Route and are water restrictions so severe that tourists should stay away. Would I be better travelling elsewhere in SA or is the drought impacting the whole of SA?

Thank you

Inukashi's Hotel / Inukashi
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:11:06 pm »

Inukashi, otherwise known as Dogkeeper, is one of the denizens who live outside No.6. Raised by a dog, they now run a hotel where they rent out dogs to the tenants, allowing them to keep warm in the winter. They also engage in an information trade. They have a strong bond with dogs, particularly the dog that was their mother, going as far as to try to kill anyone who would insult her memory.

Though their relation with Nezumi is antagonistic on the surface, the two have come a little closer since Shion has appeared.

Inukashi's gender is kept ambiguous throughout the series.

The Theater / Interoperable Immersive Audio
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:08:26 pm »

Chair of the SMPTE technology committee on cinema sound systems, talks about the effort to standardize an interoperable immersive-audio format. which will allow studios to create one immersive-audio mix that can then be delivered and rendered in theaters with different audio systems, such as Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, and DTS:X.

Topics include the delivery bitstream, packaging, synchronization, defining the expected behavior of the renderer, testing and calibration procedures, answers to chat-room questions, and more.

Karan's Bakery / Cake recipe
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:04:50 pm »

I have always wondered what kind of cake they use, on the TV programs, that they can stack and carve without splitting apart.

Does someone have a recipe or am I just missing something?
Please help.

Forest Garden / gardening questions
« on: January 07, 2018, 10:57:41 pm »

I've been growing a camelia bush in a largish pot for a few years now. It's pretty healthy & produces beautiful white flowers in season.

This year, at the beginning of summer, it's produced a few small "fruit", similar in appearance to small quinces. I have never seen this before, in camelias that I've grown in the garden. The only reason this particular camelia is now growing in a pot is because the previous owner of the property planted it in entirely the wrong place (too much sun) & it was suffering. I simply had no other place to plant it & transplanted it to a pot, where it's been much happier.

So how come the "fruit"?

Does it have something to do with growing in a pot, or perhaps to do with warmer, drier weather in my part of Oz?

Please help.
