@kare_reiko: ah, yeah, I guess we have to settle for early-game when you can move Sorey just right so that he looks like he's hugging Mikleo. Hm-m.
But yeah, I'm holding out for a hug too. They can give us that much at least, right?

Ah yeah, I feel ya re: other stories interfering... it's really hard to get back in the right mindset once you're so out of it. Maybe try rereading some of the story or rereading canon?

Haha yeah the attachments don't always interact as they should - took a lot of effort to have a normin hanging off Mikleo's shoulder and then it just. Stays there. Floating in mid-air. Whenever he slightly moves. Oops XD; At least the one on his head stayed put! It just wobbles A LOT.

Ah, actually I meant that nice little acting skit instead of the balcony scene - it's less plot important than the conversation, so I was already assuming they'd include that. Not so sure about entering Lastonbell, that's easy enough to skip I guess... But yeah, that balcony scene has arguably way more impact than the actual ending, so I really hope they cover that one well. I made the mistake of rewatching that scene the other day, and just... dang.

(The acting though, I can watch that on infinite repeat no problem. I put everyone in beach outfits and then attached normins to everyone in my last playthrough, I almost choked on my tears from laughing. Dezel's hand went right through the dolphin floatie on Sorey's back and Mikleo's normin floated away from his shoulder, amazing.)

Sorey almost falling into darkness is still so weird to me? Like, in general how it's treated as a genuine threat that might happen for real, because it's not really in the game. On one hand, it's nice they added something with the 'hellions born from humans are different than those born from seraphim' bit and that they actually show the Shepherd's job isn't just 'lalala strolling around smashing monsters' and quite a harsh reality. That doesn't really work in a game where your primary activity is strolling around smashing monsters. On the other hand, making Sorey deal with it alone kind of... undermines a lot of the plot, which had 'SHARE YOUR BURDEN' (see also: the conclusion of the fire trial). I thought they'd have that lead up to Rose joining, since only humans can carry that burden, but so far it didn't really seem to - go anywhere? The pacing choices so far have been slightly odd.
But yeah he had no reason to fall to darkness AFTER everyone was already alright. Episode 12 is just a massive question mark to me.

And yeah, I was 100% convinced the resonance loss would be the cliffhanger. It was already there! They could have just copy-pasted the animation from the game even!!
We probably won't get Rose punching out Sorey after first hearing the seraphim now either, so fingers crossed for the acting scene to survive XD; The manga kept it despite skipping a lot, so there's hope!
And yeah what was up with Dezel? He didn't copy THAT much from Zaveid now did he. This is the same guy that went “That's not something an adolescent girl should do!” “Mowing people down?” “Riding around on someone's back!”. Lifting the same girl's skirt. Uh-huh yeah sure makes sense. They better keep him as a literal puppy magnet or I'll cry.

Ah yeah, that bluray box is hella expensive, holy... I know Japanese discs are expensive as a rule but whoa O_o  I feel bad wishing for illegal rips to show up, but yeah, same.

@Weisel: yikes, yeah I can imagine how frustrating that must be... hopefully your hands will make a full recovery very soon!
Really liking your topic idea~ I'm not much of a cosplayer myself (closet cosplay is as close as I can get), but it's so great to see others having fun with characters they love. I hope there'll be a lot of responses!

@kare_reiko: Don't get me started, I already have a bunch of notes on this XD (It'd take a while to actually write it, I would basically be rewriting the whole No. 6 plot... Brevity what is that. Though uh Nezumi as a shepherd would be a nope XD I was thinking wind seraph for him actually. Still on the fence about Shion being a shepherd, but definitely a human with enough resonance to see them and probably pure enough to be a shepherd anyway.)

@Weisel: yikes, that's quite the scare! O_o luckily you were in time to prevent a worse outcome then. Hopefully you'll recover quickly and safely and won't be needing that surgery!

@Ghosty: ahh, interesting! There was actually a thread going on over here, though it didn't last long and that was quite a while ago, so it'd be nice to pick it up again perhaps. Maybe here  in this thread if you want to start from a different angle?

(I'd love to weigh in, but as much as I love Safu, I've only seen the anime once and that was some years ago. The most I remember is being torn because YAY MORE SAFU and BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE. I mean I love that we got to see her in No. 5 and get to see the 'real her' a bit more before sh*t went down (considering most of her own screentime in the novels was... well), but it took away from the time they could have used to explain the plot going on in No. 6 and instead they added this odd subplot where Safu seems connected to the Forest People/Elyurias before she's ever back in No. 6? I don't know if I remember correctly, I just remember being baffled.)

Geesh you sure picked a nice scene, huh XD ohhh I really like the voices though! And the overall quality is very professional, you could have told me it was the official German dub and I would have totally bought it.

Karan's voice is really nice, and Nezumi with a slightly higher voice is just. So much better, no offense Hosoya I love your voice work but yeah XD; It works fine for teenagers-who-look-much-older-than-they-are, but for Nezumi who should  be able to put on a female sounding voice... nooot so much, maybe. (I still swear his voice as Asahi sounds actually higher than his Nezumi voice, what the heck. And yeah his natural voice sounds a bit higher too...)

@kare_reiko: I think Kino just had to make choices here and there - you can't possibly use every single scene from the novel if you're adapting it into another medium, no matter how much you want to. The pacing would get really choppy for one thing, and some things (like extensive monologues and dialogues, which No. 6 has plenty of) just work way better in a novel than in a comic/anime. And she wasn't given complete freedom either, I doubt it - there's always editors and stuff who supervise and tell you to cut certain things. That's needed, because you develop blind spots for your own work. I think Kino mentioned with some of those pages that she was asked to cut them, actually, so that definitely plays a role. Every writer and creator has to make sacrifices in order to make the story work. It's also entirely possible Kino was given a limited amount of chapters from the get-go, so she had to scrap certain events right from the start to make it all fit, but I don't know about that.

As for the anime... I have no idea. The last volume of the light novels was published as the anime was running, true, but they definitely consulted Asano about the ending before writing it, so I have no idea why they made the choices they did. Part of it is probably interpretation by the anime staff. They emphasized other things than the novels did, and as a result cut out and expanded on different scenes. I don't think No. 6 had a huge budget, so that accounts for the limited amount of episodes, but... I have no idea on why they made some choices, I assume they had to know from the beginning they had only 11 episodes to work with. Why expand episode 1 so much that there's one entire episode dedicated to Shion and Nezumi as twelve year olds, adding events that were later referred to in new scenes they had to add for that purpose (like the sweater)? Why dedicate so much time to Safu's time abroad and then - do that to her character in the end? Why move Rou and his people out of the caves underneath the Facility?
I have so many questions.

Mostly though from what I've seen (not that I'm such an expert), Japanese anime get made while the manga is still running in order to cash in on the success of the manga. In many cases, the anime then overtakes the manga and has to come up with its own storylines - sometimes that works, sometimes it just... doesn't. And other times they take it easier and they stay faithful to the manga as it runs side by side, or the anime gets made once the manga is done. It's definitely a market thing, though. 'This manga is popular right now, let's cash in by making it into an anime!' Or 'This genre/story does well, let's make something almost exactly like it!' I mean, it'd be great if the main goal of an anime was 'let's make a faithful adaptation of this manga/novel and make the fans happy', but it's usually also a money thing. Making a pre-existing series into an anime means you have a guaranteed audience for at least the first couple of episodes, regardless of faithfulness or quality. It's not just a Japan thing - just look at the amount of adaptations Hollywood has been producing since pretty much the very beginning, for example. It's way easier to sell something people are already familiar with than something entirely new.

I don't have any insider information though so I'm just - rambling off what I think might be the case ^^;;;
