Yeah, it's true - at least Tokyo had a pretty hot summer when I was there in 2010, and I think that's pretty common climate there anyway. I usually assume country of story origin if it's never stated in a story, which seems likely in No. 6's case indeed. Ah right, Shion did go on and on about spending summer there and how it'd be too hot to cook inside... And of course Nezumi had to leave in spring. Golly.

Ah yes! No. 3 is most likely America then, I - think. Though it really depends on how you look at the world map I suppose, ack. (I realized very late in life that while Europeans put Europe in the middle of maps, the USA at least puts the Americas in the middle. Which makes perfect sense. I just. Never realized that.)
Oh, right, I think Inukashi mentioned something of the sorts indeed... Whales, wasn't that conversation about whales? Whales were involved somehow? Hang on.

Quote
Inukashi had neither touched nor seen a whale before. He didn't even know what the ocean was like. The world that Inukashi knew was limited to the ruined hotel and its surroundings. For as long as he could remember, he had lived within those boundaries.
(volume 5)

Ah, that's... not very helpful, Inukashi. XD; So no ocean directly around the hotel, got it.

Yeah, it really sounds like Nezumi stayed for quite a bit with Shion and Karan... which makes it all the harsher that he decided to leave after all. Not a rash decision then. Dang.
